On a scale of 1-30, I give this Marathon a 30
1-Poor
2-Average
3-Good
1) Location- Huntington Beach, CA
The route was on Pacific Coast Highway. It is considered "California's Classic Oceanfront Marathon".
Score: 3
2) Start
The start line was very organized. The corrals were well marked. It was very easy to determine where to be at the start of the Marathon by the markers. Starting was very easy and the runners proceeded problem free. No people jams. "Kudos" to them they were able to handle over 10,000 participants very well.
Score: 3
3) Route
The route was mostly flat with very few hills. Retro surf bands were the source of entertainment along the route. The course was an exclusive oceanfront course.
Score: 3
4) Mile Markers
The mile markers were very visible and accurate.
Score: 3
5) Water Stops
The water stops were well stocked and the volunteers were very helpful. They treated us like "Kings" and "Queens" and took good care of all the runners.
Score: 3
6) Finish Line
The reception and entertainment at the finish line was great. We were handed our medals and directed to where the nourishment and water were located. And we received blankets.
Score: 3
7) Volunteers
They had a large number of volunteers. They were ready for us with food, water and electrolytes. All the stations were well stocked.
Score: 3
8) Spectators
The crowd was great. All the excitement they generated inspired me to continue no matter what. They really came out to support us. Even the little ones were ready to give us a "High Five" as we ran by.
Score: 3
9) Refreshments
The refreshments were located inside a recovery tent. In this area the runners could stretch, relax and take their time in recovering. The tent was located very close to the "Family Reunion" area, which had poles marked alphabetically. After recovering the participants had no problem finding their family members.
Score: 3
10) Medal
The medal is one of kind. As they call them "Bodacious Surfboard Medals". This is the first of my California Dreamin Series Medals.
Score: 3
